toby jug tea shop whalley

The Toby Jug Tea Shop is based in Whalley (Ribble Valley) Lancashire. It was originally a 16C farm house and attached barn. There is internal oak panaling in the building for the local Whalley Abbey. As you will see in the photos below the front elevation has not weathered well with the cement pointing.

I have put quite a few photos of the elevation with the cement pointing on, as it is one of the worst i have seen.

Growth of weeds at ground level throught the pointing.

wall prior to lime pointing

We carfully removed the cement pointing from the elevation using hand tools. The void were packed and using a lime putty based mortar.

lime mortar pointing with hessian sheets

The elevation was also pointed in a lime putty based mortar because of the soft Lancashire sand stone.

The elevation had to be sheeted with hessian to prevent the lime mortar from drying to quickly.
