This property is located in Rimington (Ribble Valley) Lancashire, the client had bad problems with damp and water leaking into the internal walls.
As you can see in this photo, cement pointing on the external elvations not allowing the walls to breathe. The water is trapped behind the impervious cement pointing, the lime mortar under this pointing is at saturation point.
We used a small air hammer to remove the cement pointing, this hammer uses very quick and small impacks thus not causing damage to the stone. It can also be used safely in damp or wet conditions.
On this job we used a lime putty based mortar to fill in the voids, and a Hydraulic NHL 3.5 lime mortar for pointing. Here you can see pinning stones being placed in the joint with the lime mortar.
