This building is a Grade II listed property on the outskirts of Bolton-by-Bowland, Lancashire. Due to water ingress into the internal of the gable elevation, the client required the elevation to be re-pointed using traditional lime mortar.

Because of the soft Lancashire sand stone we used only hand tools to remove the cement mortar, thus causing no damage to the face of the elavation.

Scaffolding erected to gain access to the elavation.

Voids in the wall had to be packed and filled with a lime putty based mortar & pinning stones. This joint packing helps make the elavation watertight and supports the centre fill material.

The wall had to be sheeted with 4 layers of hessian to prevent the lime mortar pointing for drying to quickly, the sheeting was wet down 6-10 times per day (depending on heat) 7 days a week.
